ADMISSIONS POLICY & PROCEDURE

Stern Hebrew High School accepts as many Jewish young men and women

as we can support in their growth as a Ben/Bat Torah and in General studies.


Tuition for 2010-2011 will be $18,500. Other fees will apply.


The following admissions materials must be submitted by Friday, February 5, 2010


Completed and signed Application and Questionnaire form with the non-refundable $50 application fee must be postmarked by Friday, February 5, 2010. Applications postmarked after Friday, February 5, 2010, are subject to an additional $50 late fee. Visits to the school may be arranged before submission of the application.


NOTE: Incomplete and/or new applications will not be processed between August 13 and September 13.


Official School Transcripts including the current and the previous years’ grades must be sent directly from your child’s current school office to our office by Friday, February 5, 2010. Please request transcripts from all schools that your child attended in the past two years.


Recommendations from current Judaic Studies Teacher, Humanities Teacher, and Mathematics or Science Teacher must be submitted by Friday, February 5, 2010.



Admissions Test (ISEE): We will offer ISEE testing on-site Sunday, December 6, 2009, and January 17. 2010. The ISEE test is made up of verbal and mathematical multiple choice questions and a writing section. No other standardized test will be accepted. Parents will assume the cost of testing payable to the Educational Records Bureau. (Limited financial assistance is available. Contact Phyllis Colman, Director of Admissions: 215-725-3800 x.151.) Students who score below 20% in two or more of the four

areas reported by the ISEE will be required to meet with the Stern Hebrew High School school counselor and will be asked to undergo psycho-educational evaluation. Such evaluations may delay the admissions process.


For students with identified learning needs, please provide current psycho-educational assessments with the initial application order to be considered for limited resource room availability. Upon review, additional evaluation may be required. Assessments must have been completed within the past three years.


Student and Parent Interviews with the school administration will be arranged after the completed application, fee, transcripts and recommendations are received.


Notice of Acceptance Decision will be mailed within 14 school days of the interview.


Completed Enrollment Packet and non-refundable $250 enrollment fee are due within two weeks of receipt.



Once a student is accepted for the incoming ninth grade class at Stern, he/she will be required to take placement exams in Ivrit and Math given at Stern. Date and time of exams will be announced in the spring.


Schools will be requested to send to Stern a copy of the applicant’s June 2010 report card. Acceptance to Stern will be subject to review if there is a major decline in a student’s performance.
